Hemenway (Augustus) is born in Salem.

The son of a doctor and his wife, Augustus Hemenway comes to Boston and founds Augustus Hemenway and Company on Lewis Wharf in 1826. Hemenway becomes one of the most successful import/exporters in Boston. He dies in Cuba in June 1854.
